They would remain popular until the 20th century and further innovations in steel manufacturing allowed newer steel windows to support wide glass panes.
After World War II
During this period, aluminum and vinyl windows gained popularity since it’s resistant to corrosion. Also, vinyl windows were notable since they required little to no maintenance at an affordable price, which still holds true to this day. As such, the number of homeowners using steel and wooden windows decreased and made the transition to these new windows due to their long-term savings.
